CJ has this tendency to shut doors, but not latch them all the way. I can't tell you how many times I've woken up to a cold breeze running through the house because the door from our house to the garage is hanging open.
And last week, Henry took advantage and made his escape. CJ had been working in the garage (on some projects I'm very excited to show off soon!), took Henry outside for a bit, brought him back in, and went back to the garage. And of course he didn't get the front door latched.
So Henry, being a dog, and probably also wondering where CJ got to (he never seems to look around for me, but whines when CJ leaves, will wait for him outside of the bathroom, etc.), walked outside. CJ came in at some point later -- he wasn't sure how long he'd been in the garage -- and discovered the front door hanging open and Henry nowhere to be found.
Just as he jumped in the car to canvas the neighborhood, one of our neighbors pulled up with Henry in tow. She found him in her front yard sniffing at her (dead) flowers. She said Henry wasn't so sure about coming to her, so she lured him in with a piece of bread (Henry loves bread). Unfortunately, CJ didn't think to get her name or address, or else I would've been at her front door with a basket full of homemade cookies.
We lucked out this time -- he could have been hit, could have ran out onto and fell into the retention pond, or worse -- so hopefully the doors will be latched properly from here on out.
