Is having both a dog and cat what it's like to have two kids? Since I don't have any siblings, I think I'm getting a taste of what it must have been like to grow up with a brother or sister. And I can't say that I like it. (So, thanks, Mom & Dad, for no siblings!)
Bridget has evolved since we brought Henry home. I don't think she's afraid of Henry, nor do I think she absolutely hates him. Really, I think he just annoys her. A lot. I don't think he deliberately tries to annoy her, but genuinely wants to play with her. Usually once a day (or several times a day, if he really wants to annoy me), Henry will bolt into our bedroom to corner her. When he first did that, she sat underneath our bed in the middle so he couldn't get to her. Now she jumps out from underneath the bed to swat at him. I've seen her grab his eyelid with her claw and pull (several times, actually), but this doesn't seem to hurt him -- just encourages him to keep "playing."
On the other hand, Bridget has figured out how to push Henry's buttons. We've been putting him on his lead in the backyard so he can run and play and so that we can get a little peace and quiet. Bridget has started to take advantage of this though. Last week, I put him outside and left the door open. Bridget then came out of the bedroom and walked right into his line of vision -- and knew it. He started to go crazy, yipping, jumping, and annoying me and our neighbors alike, I'm sure. She'd retreat to the bedroom, and then repeat this process. I finally had to let him back in because he was so loud. Then yesterday, I had him outside all afternoon. After awhile, he started barking at the side of the house, so I looked to see what was going on -- nothing. Thirty seconds later, he started barking again, so I walked outside to see what he was looking at, and sure enough, there was Bridget. She'd gotten up from her nap and was sitting at the window, looking quite smug.
I find this behavior a tad bit annoying, but I guess I should get used to it, because I imagine it's a lot worse when there are children involved. Maybe we should push that kid timeline back a little further...
