cincinnati getaway

We try to get away to Cincinnati a few times each year - it's convenient and (most importantly) Ikea is there.  This time, we had to make a trip to Jungle Jim's International Market, which CJ saw on Modern Marvels a few months ago.

The decorations were just a little ... random.

The Elvis Lion (??) in the candy section:

The Lucky Charm Band ... in the produce section:

Robin Hood scene ... but I'm not sure what that thing is off to the left??

A fire truck (obviously) by the hot sauce section:

A good part of the grocery store just had regular food (labeled "American"), so we skipped all of that.  I figure I didn't drive all the way to Cincinnati to buy regular food I could buy at the Kroger around the corner from our house.  But, they did have an excellent cheese section, the largest selection of wine that I think I've ever seen, a great produce section, and any type of international food you'd ever want.

Giant avocados!  These are roughly the size of two/two and a half Hass avocados.

Ugli fruit.  I'll be honest.  I bought one because it was strange looking.

Longans from Thailand.  These are super tiny and to eat them, you have to crack them open.  Again, I bought some just because they were different.   Fingers crossed that they're not gross.

Jungle Jim's has 1,400 types of hot sauce.  Here's just one aisle:

Here's part of our haul -- mangoes, turnips, jerky seasoning (more about that later), Hawaiian raspberry marinade, and French berry lemonade:

Yeah, we drove all the way to Ohio to buy Fair Oaks cheese.  We also got some Blarney Castle cheese and some Irish Whiskey Cheddar.  We probably could have bought more, but good cheese is a little pricey...

We even bought McDoggie Fries for Henry.  We also got him some peanut butter cookies.  Spoiled much?

So, Jungle Jim's was a bit strange, but we still had a good time, and we'll definitely go back the next time we're in Cincinnati (which is the next time we really need something from Ikea).
