A few weeks ago, we visited CJ's family, partially for CJ's birthday, but mostly we hadn't seen them for several months. For CJ's birthday, they bought CJ a pinata. Apparently when he was younger, they bought him a pinata for his birthday party, but made him go last so his friends could go first. The pinata busted beforehand and CJ never got to hit it. My mother-in-law said she always felt bad about that, but I assured her that CJ has never mentioned it, so it probably didn't bother him that much (he definitely would have mentioned it to me at some point over the past year and a half if it did!). So, for his 27th birthday, he finally got his pinata.

Take 1: My goofy husband refuses to take normal pictures.

Take 2

And, Take 3. We never got a good picture.
My father-in-law was standing behind the tree moving the pinata on him.
On Thursday night, I came home from work to find this gem in my front yard:

For years, I've threatened our friend, Eric, with these inflatables, because he hates them probably more than I do. In the spirit, I didn't deflate it, and it's still up, up until trick-or-treating time is over, at which point this thing is coming down. Payback is coming, Eric, and it will be so much better than this!
Last night, we held our 2nd annual Halloween party. Mostly because I was short on time, but also on ideas, I reused a costume from a few years ago. Instead of going as a firefly with the light on my back, I decided to go as a bug. CJ went as a bug catcher. I think we both suffered from a costume identity crisis though. I think everyone thought I was a fairy, and CJ got everything from a zookeeper to Jack Hanna to an inmate to my dad, who wears khaki-colored dickie shirts and pants everyday.

Henry Potter!

Bridget, who refused to come out for the party.
We wanted to go with a Harry Potter theme for the pets. Henry Potter was logical, and Bridget was to go as Professor McGonagall, who can transfigure into a cat. Both pets were to have capes. I never made one for Bridget, and Henry's was torn up within 10 minutes of our friends arriving. I also wanted to crochet Gryffindor scarves, but that didn't work out either. I started crocheting a scarf on Sunday, but since I haven't crocheted in a few years, I had to re-learn how to do it, and as CJ pointed out, what was completed looked like a triangle. Bridget got into it a few nights too. And then I just ran out of time -- story of my life. Maybe next year.
Eric
I didn't get pictures of everyone, but Brad and Chelynne dressed up as a cowboy and Indian, Eric and Leah came as lumberjacks, and Alicia came as a domino.
I've loaded up on candy for trick-or-treaters tonight (and I'll only allow them to take one piece each, because the early, greedy kids last year loaded up and I had to close up shop early) and that'll be it for this holiday.

So at first, the pinata looks HUGE! It looks like it is sitting on top of the tree stump. Then you see CJ standing behind it...crazy game on the eyes! As for the pumpkin with the witch hat, I could get you back 100 times more than you think you can get me back. Just know that I will ALWAYS one up you!! HAHAHA!!
