yelling at bums

It's going to be a long one; we've been busy these past few days.

First... CJ officially got word from the Plainfield Fire Department that he'll start on January 14th! I'm so proud of him and excited for this opportunity. And...it means we'll both have a week off after the wedding and we'll actually be able to take a honeymoon!

The rest of the updates...

Friday night, I had some friends over for dinner and a little pampering party, put on by my friend Christie, who is just getting going with her Mary Kay business. We started by soaking our feet and painting our toenails, and then played around with Mary Kay's microderm set. Overall, I didn't realize this until they left, but I definitely needed a night off with my friends!

Since she hates feet, Amanda took pictures. Then she crashed on the couch. And then she fed my fish and cleaned out the beta fish's little bowl.

Saturday morning, we went to Chicago with Eric and Leah for our joint bachelor/ette party. We had a great time, and definitely made some memories.

We first checked into our hotel, which was right by O'Hare, and then we took the train downtown. Leah and I went to the Art Institute, which I really enjoyed. (I had no idea how big Ile de la Grande Jatte really was, and it was just amazing.) The guys went to the Museum of Science and Industry, where they got in for free, but only got to enjoy it for twenty minutes before it closed.

The pictures below show the giant crowd of Santas stopping at the kidney bean thing in Chicago, and then running around on the streets.

Then came the fun... We met up with the guys by the time it was nearly freezing and raining pretty hard; we had one umbrella for the four of us. We went to Macy's, and then started walking to get to Giordono's for pizza. Leah and I told the guys we had it "all under control." Yeah...pretty sure they're never going to let us be in control of anything ever again. Leah had called the hotel and they gave us directions...which turned out to be five blocks in the wrong direction. So we walked another five blocks back to where we nearly started and found the restaurant. As you can see below, my make-up was long gone and we were pretty wet...but it was still good.

So as we're walking back, CJ was stopped by a bum who wants to tell him about his "shoe business." I pulled him away, and as I'm doing it, the bum yells at me that "[he] don't mean no harm. Why are you pullin' him away like that? Geeze." So then I yell back at the bum that I'm cold and I'm not in the mood. Real smart, Molly. Yell at a bum.

The next morning, we drove to Ikea, not intending to buy much. We drove back to Indianapolis with the jeep very full and with two large boxes strapped to the top. Oh, and the straps made really loud noises the entire trip down. But, I did end up with a new buffet for my kitchen; CJ was just excited to get storage space in the garage.

Overall, bums, bathroom incidents, and rainy weather aside, we had a great time and will hopefully make it an annual trip.

Let's see...what else.

Monday they threw me a really nice shower at work. Somehow I ended up with a mounted plastic fish that sings "Rock the Boat." It was a gag gift, but CJ still loved it and asked to hang it up in the living room. After work, our small group went to the women's shelter downtown to throw a Christmas party for the single women, which is always a good time (we'd been there before last Christmas and Valentine's Day for parties). I spent last night paying bills, and we spent tonight hunting for driveway salt, because apparently you're supposed to buy salt before it ices over.

And because people want wedding updates... I've been working on my flowers this week. I'm waiting on RSVPs to come in still, and as soon as I'm comfortable enough with everything, I need to start to make out seating arrangements. CJ is going to play around with cupcake recipes this weekend and next week, and we're going on Friday to get our marriage license...perhaps the second most important part of the whole deal, aside from the ring. And now we can plan a honeymoon, so we're looking into 3-4 days down at West Baden.

I better close down for tonight and finish those flowers. Hopefully this long post will suffice for awhile. (Let me know if anyone actually finished reading!)
