I've found that with school, work, and everything in between, sometimes I just need a mindless activity. I saw a tutorial on one of the blogs I follow (can't remember which now) about making modge podge magnets, and I figured I could do it. Plus, it helped me get rid of the ugly standard black magnets I was using to hold up stuff on our fridge.
Here's what I ended up with:
If you want to do it yourself, here's what I purchased:
- Small wooden squares ($1.47)
- Piece of scrapbook paper ($.34, plus I barely used any)
- Modge podge ($5, but the whole container is still nearly full)
- Clear acrylic ($5, but again, I barely used any)
- Brown craft paint (already on hand)
- Sticky magnet strips (already on hand)
- Small brushes (already on hand)
It's super easy, and aside from applying the magnets, I did it all in one night. I painted the wooden squares first (not necessary, but I did it in case any wood would show later), cut out the squares, used the modge podge to adhere the paper to the squares (and then put a layer of modge podge on top), and once everything was dried, I sprayed it with the acrylic.
Although the start-up costs were a little high, I plan to make more. And who knows? I've seen people sell sets of magnets very similar to this on etsy for $6+, so maybe that'll be my new venture.

Very cute! You'll soon be sucked into the mindless act of making magnets on a regular basis, I assure you...
