we're still alive

I've posted to the blog recently, but aside from the garden, no one probably has a clue what we've been up to since May began.

We kicked off the beginning of the month at an Indians game with our small group. CJ had never been, and although I'm not a big baseball fan myself, I actually like going.

Last weekend, my sister-in-law, Megan, graduated from Indiana State, so we spent several hours in Terre Haute on Saturday. She worked so hard to get her degree, so we were happy to go, but it reminded me why I didn't walk at my college graduation.

We worked some more on the garden this week, and then the rains came and washed half of it out. CJ was able to replant and tie down the two tomato plants that were uprooted in the deluge, but I think we lost at least half of the scallions and onions we planted, and all but one pepper plant. My strawberry plants were flattened too. I'll be replanting some this week. But the good news is that the green beans are coming up. (My friend, Amanda, told me today how surprised she is that I'm getting into the garden and yard, becoming domesticated and all that. I responded with, "Yeah, disgusting, isn't it?")

Thursday night while CJ was at work, I volunteered at Dress for Success, and then headed to a party at a former co-worker's house. (She has cute kids, including eight month old triplets, so I couldn't resist the invitation!)

We spent this Friday and Saturday in Knox County, as Megan had a graduation party yesterday. We got our Easter presents from CJ's parents, which included magic clothes -- socks for me and boxers for CJ; these are the kinds that are super tiny, and then you put them in water and they expand to real sizes. Love it.

After church today, I spent some much overdue time with Amanda at the Broad Ripple Art Fair. (CJ didn't hide his disappointment that he had to work and couldn't go. In fact, when I told him Amanda was going with me, he responded with, "God bless Amanda.") I'd always want to go, even though it's known for being crowded and a tiny bit expensive. But, we had a good time and would definitely go back. We both ended up buying artwork from this artist -- http://www.nuez.com/. The piece I bought looked better the larger it was, and the largest piece would have looked fantastic on our mantelpiece, but it was also over $500, and we're just not made of money, so I settled on the cheaper $30 print of the same piece. But seriously, take a look at his website -- especially under the crystals section -- as he's done some interesting and intriguing work.

I suppose I'm going to spend the rest of the evening picking up the kitchen and moving things out of our living room. After a month's hiatus, CJ has decided that he's going to start working on our living room floors tomorrow. I'm not looking forward to having my house torn up again, but I'm also ready to have this out of the way so we can enjoy our house.

I hope all is well with everyone. Leave comments -- it helps to know people actually read the blog occasionally!

Thanks for coming to the party. Anytime you want to borrow a baby to further your domestication, you just let me know. HA!

BTW, had a very weird dream last night that we knew each other in college and you were setting me up on a blind date...see today's post for an explanation of why I was having such strange dreams...
